T2 iDDR

Intelligent Digital Disk Recorder

The T2™ iDDR is a next-generation intelligent digital disk recorder (iDDR) that combines advanced nonlinear features (direct, frame-accurate access to content), with VTR-like controls.

The T2 iDDR is a complete and self-contained SD and HD audio/ video playout center which delivers superb image quality, versatility, and usability. It has two playback channels and one record channel, all simultaneously and independently available, supporting full 1920x1080 (60/50/24) resolution, as well as 720p and 480i formats.

The two playout channels can be used for independent playout, editing, previewing, or for delivering content to two different display systems simultaneously. The T2 iDDR has also been engineered to seamlessly integrate with Grass Valley EDIUS® nonlinear editing software.

Extensive Interfaces
The T2 iDDR features all of the I/Os needed for both professional and broadcast environments, including analog (composite, component, and XLR) and digital (SD/HD-SDI, DVI-I, and AES/EBU) video and audio interfaces for each channel.

All content is encoded using the Grass Valley HQ codec, a intraframe-based, 4:2:2 color space, high-quality, and extreamly flexible encoding format.

The T2 iDDR also has a wide variety of control protocols. Starting with an RS-422 (BVW) port for each channel, T2 also supports AMP through Ethernet and GPI triggering.

Data Sheet

Updated! File-based Workflow
Featuring extensive rear-panel audio/video connectivity, the T2 iDDR can exchange content at high speed over a network or via removable media, such as HDD through USB, FireWire (IEEE 1394), DVD drive, or the dedicated 2.5-inch HDD/SSD slot.

The T2 iDDR also accepts media from other applications, including HQ AVI, MPEG-2, QuickTime (ProRes422, DVCPROHD, H.264), Windows Media Video HD, and still picture files and sequences.

With new T2 Codec Options such as the T2 PRO Option, the T2 iDDR now accepts broadcast MXF format files, along with the ability to directly playout from P2 or XDCAM drives connected via USB.

The latest free Service Pack (SP3) adds the ability to export files from the T2 iDDR in MXF (XDCAM) format, for better interoperability with third-party applications.

Updated! Ease of Use
The first thing you'll notice when looking at the T2iDDR is its crisp, clear 7-inch wide (the industry's largest) touchscreen LCD front panel, which can display high-quality images and is complemented by a software application suite for managing and selecting media clips, clip editing and trimming, and playout—including playlist creation.

The intuitive front panel interface allows functions to be easily found and used. For example, to synchronize the two playout channels, all you have to do is tap on the "3D/Sync mode" button... that's all.

The T2 iDDR also supports automatic up/downconversion. By selecting the output resolution and frame rate of each channel, whatever content is loaded into the player or playlist will be converted on the fly to the selected resolution.

Updated! Constant Evolution
With Service Pack 1 released in March 2010, SP2 released in June 2010, and SP3 released in December 2010, the T2 iDDR has proven itself to be a continuously evolving product. The Service Packs, available at no extra cost, include new key features which were suggested by users, such as up/downconversion, QuickTime ProRes support, FTP import and export, NAS support, and much more.

Service Packs also include some feature enhancements which provide a better user experience based on user feedback. These include no clip unloading or pausing when switching from Front Panel mode to Workstation mode and vice-versa.

Grass Valley listens to both potential and existing customers comments and suggestions to make products that suit the needs of a wide market.

New! T2 SP3 Now Available
The latest Service Pack (SP3), downloadable from Grass Valley's website at no extra cost, includes new key features and feature enhancements for a better file-based workflow and user experience overall, such as:
  • The ability to export MXF (XDCAM format) for better interoperability with Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere.
  • Keeping the clips mounted while switching from Workstation mode to Front Panel mode and vice versa.

And much more. Please check our readme file in the download for the list of new features included.

New! T2 Options Now Available
The T2 iDDR now offers options which includes three sets of new exciting features:

  • T2 P2 Option: This provides the option to import and playback P2 MXF formats. Although it has some recording and playback restrictions depending on the codec, you can also natively playback P2 files directly from a P2 drive attached via USB.
  • T2 XDCAM Option: Supporting XDCAM HD, 422, IMX, DVCAM, and EX formats, this option enables the import and playback of these file types. Similar to the T2 P2 Option, although some restrictions apply, you will be able to natively playback directly from an XDCAM device attached to the T2. (Note that only an XDCAM EX type file needs to be imported prior to playback.)
  • T2 Alpha Option: This option provides the ablitity to import files such as QuickTime (ProRes4444, uncompressed, animation), TGA, Grass Valley HQ, and AVI uncompressed each containing alpha information inside the file, and the ability to automatically split the key and filll for synchronized playback.
